Trees and Park: · No update. Nominating Committee: · Joe Chambliss and Jay Levy are running again in this election. · Jim Haviland, Courtney James, Ginny Widmark, and Julie Maxwell are all continuing their terms for the 2006 2007 year. · Kisha Daniels and Susan Herst will be new neighbors running this election. · Andy Seamans and Kenny Dalsheimer will not be running this year. · We agreed that we need to start investigating potential nominees early for the next election. It was decided that we would start advertising for that in the winter newsletter. · At the first Board meeting on June 12th, the new board will elect officers. Social Committee: · The annual picnic is scheduled for June 11, 2006. · Jay will contact Darrell to confirm pavilion reservation and the availability of moonwalk. He will also confirm the new protocols for pavilion rental fees. · If the moonwalk is not available Julie will investigate options with some sort of Scrap Exchange activity. · The plan will remain the same as previous years with neighbors bringing a side of their choice and the association will cover the cost of BBQ and drinks. · The Board will begin work on list of accomplishments for 2005-2006 to present at the annual picnic. · Board members agreed to cover the remaining cost of the Volunteer Recognition Party. Community Renewal: · Nothing new to report as Ray has been very busy. As mentioned in last month’s minutes, if anyone from Forest Hills wants to be a Weatherization Team Leader they are welcome to join us at the training for the Durham Rebuilding Week June 17-24. They are looking for a volunteer crew of between 6-8 people to build a ramp. One of them must have carpentry skills. They already have money for the materials. Communications Committee: · Julie announced that Barbara Braatz will be taking over the layout portion of the newsletter. She will begin this work on the next newsletter in early fall of 2006. Recreation Committee: · Committee is planning to meet Thursday 5/11 to discuss next steps. · The committee is moving forward on plans to add picnic tables around the playground area. · There will be a meeting in the fall (September) to discuss adult recreation in the park.
Walking Trails: · Karsten Rist (Beverly Dr) volunteered to physically survey the trail. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the legal matters associated with the project and a landscape construction planner. · The goal is for construction to start this fall. · Prior to commencement of construction there will be a neighborhood meeting to discuss the specific details of the trail (location, construction, etc).
Stream Restoration: · Dub received a call from the Co. Extension contact who's been handling the potential stream restoration on the westside saying he had heard back from the Clean Water department and that FHNA needed to make its decision. Essentially it sounded like he was granted nothing other than a walking trail from the request we'd made for a scaled back, "urban" model. Thus a westside restoration would basically be like the eastside's. · Given this information the Board was not in favor of moving forward with the westside restoration. · This does not resolve the issues with the portion of the east side stream connector next to the bridge that is in dire need of attention. This section of the stream will have to be addressed separately. Logo Contest: · FHNA will be announcing a contest to design a logo that will be the official logo of the neighborhood. We will use this logo in newsletters, the website, to design the neighborhood sign, and perhaps things such as t-shirts. Contact a board member if you are interested in submitting a proposal. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR CREATIVE NEIGHBORS TO DESIGN A NEIGHBORHOOD LOGO! Boy Scouts: · The Boy Scout camp will take place in the same location as last year. In the event that there are heavy rains before the camp and the east side park floods, the contingency will be to move much of the camp to the peninsula in the east side park that is not in the flood plain.
