FHNA Board Meeting 6/12/06Board Attendees: Joe Chambliss, Kenny Dalsheimer, Courtney James, Jay Levy, Julie Maxwell, Ginny Widmark General business: There was a motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting, it was moved, seconded, and approved unanimously. Treasurer’s Report: Revenue: We have received $3345 in dues renewals from 42 patrons and 40 regular members (as of 5/31). That also includes a couple of additional contributions that will be added to park funds at the beginning of the new fiscal year. We collected 35.54 in interest income from the 3 interest bearing accounts, 75.00 in advertising revenue billed in March and 1100.60 to offset the costs of the volunteer party (ticket sales and board member contributions). Expense: We paid an additional 915.93 for the volunteer party (primarily for food and beverage in addition to money spent in April on the invitation mailing) and paid the deposit of 360.00 for the Bulls Outing. We paid 1.09 to PayPal for one renewal, 180.36 on preparation and mailing the ballots and 28.88 for supplies that we'll use at the picnic (name tags). The $3345 will be distributed amongst General Funds and Patron Funds on July 1 based on the actual renewals. On the membership side, as of June 9 we had 49 Patrons and 43 Regular Memberships for a total of 92 members prior to the picnic. This is about where we were last year at this time. Trees and Park: No update. Community Renewal: The Board discussed plans for National Night Out on August 1st. We will probably plan a similar event as last year with ice cream served on the bridge with St. Theresa neighborhood. Joe will talk with Jim and Ray about how best to get the word out to the neighbors. Courtney will work with Jay to get a postcard ready for delivery. Perhaps we could use this event as a discussion on the future of the bridge (we could display a sketch of what was shown to city counsel). Communications Committee: Julie confirmed that Barbara Braatz will be taking over the layout portion of the newsletter. She will begin this work on the next newsletter in early fall of 2006. We received one entry for the logo contest. We all thought that the logo was fabulous and it was clear that a lot of time went into the design. Julie will try out several versions of the design and share with everyone for feedback. Social Committee: Plans are underway for the Forest Hills night at the Durham Bulls. The event is Sunday August 6, 2006 at 5:00 PM. The charge is $12 and seating is limited to 48 so reserve your seat now. Send your payment to Jay Levy at 72 Beverly Drive. Courtney introduced an idea presented by Moe Berry to host a fundraiser that is a tour of recent neighborhood renovations and a progressive dinner/cocktail event. Ginny expressed some interest in helping with the process. Courtney will create a subcommittee to plan and organize this event sometime later this year. Recreation Committee: Patti Inman gave Marcia Brooks a catalog with park equipment. The recreation committee will review the catalog. The committee will also investigate options to have picnic tables made by the NC Department of Corrections. There will be a meeting in the fall (September) to discuss adult recreation in the park. Walking Trails: The engineer is providing draft plans that we will be able to review with the neighborhood next month. Stream Restoration: The neighborhood has decided against the stream restoration for the west side. Joe will formally follow-up and make sure that a letter goes to the appropriate people to notify them of this decision. Nominating Committee:
