Therefore, the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association dedicates itself to the following goals to protect and preserve and also to improve and expand Forest Hills Park:

Install diverse, native plants with multi-season interest.

Maintain existing, trees, plantings and woodlands

Remove fallen and dead trees and limbs when appropriate

Provide opportunities for environmental education.

Create and install signage describing plants, stream ecology, flood plain ecology, etc.

Provide a place for children to learn about plants and gardening.
|
Restore and maintain children’s experiential garden near playground.

Promote the ability to traverse throughout the park.

Install bridges, add signs and amend pathways to promote accessible connectivity in concert with existing surroundings.

Maintain and improve the playground.
|
Provide new facilities for older kids.
Provide shade at playground.

Maintain and improve the playing fields.

Grade and re-seed main playing field East of University Drive
|
|
Maintain and improve the clubhouse, picnic shelter, tennis courts, pool and bathrooms.
|
Insure adequate city funding to support these facilities in a clean, safe and attractive manner.

Provide additional shaded seating.
|
Add picnic tables under oak trees near the playground.
|
|
Support the use of the park as a venue for concerts, performances and other activities.
|
Encourage organizations such as Centerfest, City Parks program, Durham Brass Band to use FH Park as venue for concerts, art events, etc.
|
|
Increase appropriate (ecologically sensitive) parking for events
|
Signage, barriers or other means to discourage parking on or near tree roots.
|
|
Improve traffic control and safety for events
|
Coordinate with police department for special events as needed.
